Director Priyadarshan is well-known for his iconic comedy films, and recently, his Akshay Kumar-starrer Bhoot Bangla received a fantastic response at the box office. Just months after that success, the dynamic duo of Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan are back, but this time, instead of comedy, Priyadarshan has tried his hand at a gripping crime thriller titled Haiwaan. Alongside Akshay Kumar, the film also features Saif Ali Khan in a lead role. So, how did Haiwaan perform on its very first day at the box office? Did it rake in massive numbers, or did it bomb completely?
The opening day collection figures for Priyadarshan’s Haiwaan are officially out, and they have caught many by surprise. Despite having heavyweights like Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan, the film failed to make any significant splash on day one. Just a few days ago, Yash's film Toxic also tanked at the box office, but Haiwaan has performed even worse than Toxic.
According to reports from Sacnilk, Haiwaan grossed around ₹4.60 crore worldwide on its opening day, which includes an India collection of approximately ₹3.50 crore. With an estimated budget of ₹100 to ₹115 crore, collecting such low numbers on day one paints a bleak picture for the film's future.
However, it is still too early to write off the film completely. In today's cinematic landscape, many movies start slow but pick up momentum through strong word-of-mouth. We saw a similar trend with films like Hanuman, and even Priyadarshan's Bhoot Bangla had a modest start before eventually recovering its budget to become a hit.
