July 3, 2000, marked a monumental milestone in Indian television history when Smriti Irani's iconic serial Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi premiered on Star Plus. The show became an absolute phenomenon, running for over eight years and completing 1,833 episodes before its emotional wrap-up on November 6, 2008.
After a massive 16-year and 8-month hiatus, fans rejoiced when Season 2 of the beloved daily soap finally launched on July 29, 2025. The revival quickly captured the audience's affection, bringing back a wave of nostalgia.
However, fans of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi Season 2 are now facing disappointing news. After a successful 14-month run, the show is officially going off the air. The final episode is scheduled to broadcast on October 20, 2026, making way for Star Plus’s new upcoming show, Apsara. According to reports, the series will wrap up on a happy, heartwarming note, giving Mihir and तुलसी (Tulsi) a joyful and satisfying conclusion to their iconic love story.
Why is the Show Ending?
The sudden closure of the show has sparked various discussions and speculations on social media. While some reports point to sliding TRPs, a major theory circulating among fans links the end of the show to Smriti Irani's political commitments.
Following the Lok Sabha election results in June 2024, Irani initially had a lighter political schedule, which coincided with the launch of Season 2 in July 2025. However, her political career has ramped up significantly once again. On August 17, 2026, she was appointed as the National General Secretary of the BJP and assigned the critical role of Uttar Pradesh in-charge, ahead of upcoming state elections. With her heavy political responsibilities, she is reportedly unable to dedicate the extensive hours required for a daily soap. Given that the show is practically synonymous with her presence, her political comeback is widely believed to be the primary reason for the closure.
Alternatively, insider reports suggest that Season 2 was originally planned for a limited run of 167 episodes, but due to overwhelming audience love, its timeline was extended.
Will There Be a Season 3?
Offering a silver lining for dedicated fans, actor Amar Upadhyay hinted at the possibility of a third season in a recent media interaction. Reflecting on the show's journey, Upadhyay shared:
"It could come back in the future. This time it returned after nearly 20 years, but the next season might come much sooner. Due to the show's strong performance, it was extended in January, and kept getting extensions, but we always knew it had to end someday."
